Joe Moreno, 18, clearly wasn’t worried about being the butt of any jokes when he chose his date to the big dance. The Collegiate High School senior from Corpus Christi just wanted to make sure his mother had a good time.

Pictures of the mother-son duo’s big night out have since gone viral, and Joe says that had an amazing night himself.

Joe’s prom was held on Friday, April 13. The next day, he took to Twitter to share some of the photo highlights.

‘My mom had me at the age of 17 she dropped out of high school to focus on giving me her all,’ he explained in a tweet. ‘Last night I gave her the prom night she never had.’

Attached were two photos of Joe and his mother, Vanessa. In one, he stands proudly in his tuxedo and red bowtie, while his mom smiles next to him in a black and gold dress. Her hair is purple, and she wears a corsage on her wrist.

In another, they pose for a close-up, both beaming for the camera.

Later, he uploaded nine more photos taken in the photobooth. The pair look like they had a wonderful time, posing together for both some traditional prom shots and some goofier images.

Joe’s tweet quickly earned the attention of others on social media, racking up 185,000 likes so far. Many applauded him for being such a good son, while others commented on how great his mom looked.

Joe explained that he had asked special permission for his mother to come, since most schools don’t allow dates over a certain age. He also said that he had a blast.

Vanessa had a ball, too. He told the Caller Times: ‘She loved it. She really appreciated me creating that memory for her.’

According to KIII TV, Joe had been telling Vanessa that he’d take her to prom since he was little, and he was adamant about keeping his promise when the dance finally rolled around — despite Vanessa insisting he’d miss out if he didn’t take someone his own age.

‘I’m trying to persuade him, “Hey, take somebody else. Take somebody. This is your prom. Like, we can have our memories somewhere else.” And he kept on. “No, I’m taking you,”‘ she said.

‘I really love talking about my family,’ Joe added. ‘It’s something that I’m really passionate about. I’m really passionate about who I am. I love who I am.

‘So when I bring my mom, everyone knows I love my mom. I tell them about it, and they are all really supportive and really loving of the idea.’
